This role offers the opportunity to design, develop, and maintain back-end systems for a dynamic, high-traffic platform. The Senior Back End Engineer will play a key role in building scalable, reliable, and efficient services that power core business features. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges and deliver high-quality solutions. This position allows for mentorship of junior engineers, ownership of critical projects, and direct impact on product and technical strategy. Accountabilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize back-end services and APIs using Ruby on Rails.
  • Solve complex technical and product challenges, ensuring high performance and reliability across the platform.
  • Advocate for improvements to code quality, maintainability, and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define technical solutions and implementation plans.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and on-call rotations to maintain system reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on best practices and development standards.
  • Design technical paths from product concepts to deployment, contributing to architectural decisions.
  • Document processes, guides, and patterns to support team knowledge sharing.


Requirements
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant back-end engineering experience.
  • Expert to mastery-level experience with Ruby on Rails and Postgres.
  • Proven experience owning product and technical challenges to deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work on complex, high-scope projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote-friendly environment.
  • Experience with code quality, testing, and performance optimization.
  • Nice to have: experience in tech startups, remote teams, Kubernetes, Docker, Linux/Unix, or shell scripting.
  • Passion for sports or daily fantasy sports is a plus.
